दिल्ली में मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (CEO) ज्ञानेश कुमार सहित इलेक्शन कमीशन के सीनियर अधिकारियों की बुधवार को राज्य चुनाव अधिकारियों के साथ मीटिंग जारी है। इसमें देशभर में वोटर्स लिस्ट के स्पेशल इंटेसिव रिविजन (SIR) यानी वोटर्स वेरिफिकेशन, कराने की तैयारियों को लेकर चर्चा की गई।
मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार बिहार के बाद, पूरे देश में SIR लागू किया जाएगा। इस साल के अंत में असम, केरल, पुडुचेरी, तमिलनाडु और पश्चिम बंगाल में 2026 में होने वाले विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले यह शुरू हो सकती है। इसका मुख्य मकसद जन्म स्थान की जांच करके अवैध प्रवासियों को बाहर निकालना है।

फरवरी में मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त का पदभार संभालने के बाद ज्ञानेश कुमार की यह तीसरी बैठक है। इसमें सीनियर अधिकारी जहां आयोग की SIR पॉलिसी पर प्रजेंटेशन देंगे, वहीं बिहार के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी SIR के क्रियान्वयन में राज्य का एक्सपीरियंस शेयर करेंगे।
इससे पहले, चुनाव आयोग ने मंगलवार को बिहार चुनाव आयोग को लेटर भेजकर मतदाताओं की पहचान के लिए आधार कार्ड को 12वें दस्तावेज के रूप में स्वीकार करने का निर्देश दिया। चुनाव आयोग का यह फैसला सुप्रीम कोर्ट के 8 सितंबर के आदेश के बाद आया है।
